Psychosomatics of cervical erosion

“Erosion” usually means a patch on the cervix that looks red during an exam. Most often it's cervical ectropion, a harmless condition, but it's important to have your cervix checked regularly.

What psychosomatics says

In psychosomatics, the cervix is linked to the boundary between you and a man. To how you feel in intimacy and in relationships.

Often there's disappointment behind it: there's intimacy, but not the warmth and respect you long for. Or the other way around: you want a relationship, but there's no one around.

Psychosomatics helps you see which relationship wound you're still holding on to.

Quick check: what may be behind it

  1. What kind of relationship do you really want?

  2. Where in intimacy do you lack warmth and respect?

  3. What disappointment in men haven't you let go of?

What it is

The cervix is the lower part of the uterus that opens into the vagina. During an exam, a gynecologist may see a reddish patch on it, which people commonly call erosion.

Most often it's ectropion: cells from inside the cervix have moved out onto its surface. It happens in young women and in women taking hormones. According to the Russian Ministry of Health clinical guidelines (2024), ectropion is considered a variant of normal. If the HPV test is negative, it isn't dangerous and doesn't need to be cauterized.

The main concern for the cervix is the human papillomavirus, HPV. It can change cells, which is why women regularly have a cytology smear and an HPV test. In Kazakhstan, under the national screening program, women aged 30 to 74 get a free liquid-based cytology test (Pap test) every 4 years. This is set out in the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan order on screening. Other countries have their own schedules, and your gynecologist will tell you yours.

How it shows up

A gynecologist makes the diagnosis based on an exam, colposcopy and smears.
