Vaginitis (colpitis) psychosomatics
Colpitis, or vaginitis, is inflammation of the vagina. If the external genitals are inflamed too, it's called vulvovaginitis.

What psychosomatics says
In psychosomatics, vaginal inflammation is linked to wanting closeness, but not this kind. You want warmth, hugs and tenderness, and your partner only wants sex.
Or the other way around: you dream of a man who will treat you well, and there are no such men around you.
Psychosomatics helps you understand what kind of intimacy you really want, and learn to talk about it.
What it is
Vaginitis is most often caused by bacteria, fungi or sexually transmitted infections. There is also bacterial vaginosis, when the balance of the vaginal flora is disrupted. According to the World Health Organization (2025), 23–29% of women of reproductive age worldwide have bacterial vaginosis.
Common triggers are antibiotics, hormonal changes, frequent washing with soap and tight synthetic underwear. WHO specifically notes that douching and frequent vaginal cleansing raise the risk of vaginosis.
During menopause, atrophic vaginitis can develop because of low estrogen: the lining becomes thin and dry. According to the Russian Ministry of Health clinical guidelines (2025), 15% of women have these symptoms in the years before menopause, and up to 80% after it.
How it shows up
- Itching and burning
- Unusual discharge, an unpleasant smell
- Redness and swelling
- Pain during intimacy and when you pee
A gynecologist makes the diagnosis after an exam and a swab.
