Why can’t I earn more, even though I try so hard?
If your income has stayed flat for years while you work hard, the issue is often not effort but what holds the ceiling in place inside. Usually these are beliefs about money from your family (“you can’t earn big money honestly”) and a fear that higher income will change your relationships. Start with one measurable income goal and an honest question: what changes when I reach it, and what scares me about that?
Why effort doesn’t turn into money
You can work twelve hours a day and earn what you did three years ago. Effort goes where it feels safe: extra tasks, discounts, helping everyone. The steps that actually move income get postponed.
Those steps are usually scary: raising your price, asking for a raise, talking about your work publicly, saying no to an unprofitable client. While the fear is stronger, the ceiling stays.
What holds the income ceiling
- Phrases from childhood. “Money spoils people”, “rich people are dishonest”, “we have enough”. You didn’t choose them, but you live by them.
- Fear for relationships. “If I earn more than my husband, he will feel bad”, “relatives will start asking”, “friends will turn away”.
- The feeling “I am not worth more”. Then every new number feels like arrogance.
- The habit of doing everything yourself. Not asking for help or delegating means hitting the limit of your own hours.
- A vague goal. “I want more money” doesn’t tell you what step to take tomorrow.
What you can do this week
- Write the goal with a number and a date: “earn 700,000 ₸ a month by summer”.
- Write down three phrases about money you heard at home. Next to each, note whether you agree with it now.
- Ask yourself: what will change with my husband, mother, friends when the goal comes true? Where there is anxiety, there is an obstacle.
- Pick one step you have been putting off: raise your price for new clients, schedule a salary talk, drop one free service.
Where the Ladder comes in
In the Ladder method the income goal is at the top, and between you and it are obstacles: people and their words about money. Above the goal are fears about what comes after. The free diagnostic takes 10 minutes and shows which obstacle matters most right now. On your phone, no sign-up.
The diagnostic doesn’t promise higher income. It helps you see what holds you back, and you take the steps.
Frequently asked questions
Do money blocks really exist?
I wouldn’t call them blocks. They are ordinary beliefs and fears about money. You can notice them, check them and replace them with your own.
Do money affirmations help?
Rarely on their own. Saying “I attract money” doesn’t remove the fear of raising your price. What works is seeing exactly what gets in the way and taking a concrete step.
What if my husband is against me earning more?
Talk about what he is afraid of: behind “against” there is often anxiety, not a ban. If the relationship involves control over money or threats, that is a reason to seek help in person.
