I do not want anything and have no energy: where do I start to get interest in life back?
When you do not want anything, start with a health check: tiredness and loss of interest can come from anaemia, the thyroid, lack of sleep or depression, and that is for a doctor to decide. At the same time you can bring interest back in small steps: sleep, movement, one pleasant thing a day and one very small step toward something that once mattered to you.
Why the wanting disappears
There are several reasons. The body: lack of sleep, low iron or vitamin D, the thyroid, hormonal changes. Load: long caring for everyone with not a minute for yourself. Emotions: accumulated suppressed dissatisfaction and goals that were chosen by someone else long ago.
So first rule out a medical cause instead of scolding yourself for laziness.
Where to start
- Book a GP and have basic tests: full blood count, ferritin, TSH, vitamin D. If a low mood persists, tell the doctor directly.
- Bring back the basics: sleep at the same time, a walk of at least ten minutes, proper food.
- Add one small pleasant thing a day that proves nothing: tea by the window, music, an unhurried shower.
- Remember what used to interest you and take the smallest step: open an old notebook, write to a friend, watch one video.
- Do not demand enthusiasm from yourself. Interest often comes after the action, not before it.
When you need a specialist
If the low mood lasts more than two weeks, or sleep, appetite and interest in everything are gone, or thoughts of not wanting to live appear, do not wait. See a doctor or a clinical psychologist in person.
The Ladder does not treat and does not replace a specialist. It helps you see where the goal, fears and tiredness have formed one wall. The free diagnostic, 10 minutes from your phone, shows it on a diagram.
Psychological work goes alongside treatment, not instead of it. Diagnosis is made by a doctor.
Frequently asked questions
Is this laziness or something more serious?
Laziness is about a specific task. When you want almost nothing and it lasts for weeks, that is a reason to see a doctor, not to scold yourself.
How do I make myself do something?
Do not force, shrink. Choose a step so small it needs no energy: five minutes, one call, one email.
Could hormones be behind this?
Yes, the thyroid, iron deficiency and hormonal changes cause fatigue and apathy. This can only be found out with tests from a doctor.
